Get this… U.S. minorities now represent more than half of America’s population under the age of 1, according to the latest information from the US Census. (The US Census defines “minority” as anyone who is not self-described as ‘white’.)
There were 114 million minorities in 2011, or 36.6% of the U.S. population, a bump of half a percentage point from 2010. The latest figures count Hispanics as the most populous and fastest growing minority group.
This figure represents a historic demographic milestone with implications on many levels. From an advertising and marketing perspective, we can no longer look at our audience with a single, assumptive lens. Understanding who the target is and how to talk to them will prove key in the ever-changing demographic landscape.
